EOL EVC Long & Short
EOL EVC Test Station = fast, convenient, repeatable and accurate cable testing for electromobility
Even established manufacturers in the electromobility sector are constantly facing new challenges. This was the case with our customer, who approached us with the need to test the power cables of battery packs for electric vehicles. Fast and reliable output inspection of cables is a necessity, as the number of their variants and the demands for traceability of the inspection process are increasing.
How to verify 25 types of cables in lengths 300–2500 mm while maintaining a fast pace of flawless quality control?
And how to ensure that each part is clearly marked and traceable over time?
Our solution combines Keyence 3D profilometry on a robot with laser marking and automatic evaluation to cover the entire range of parts without unnecessary compromises. In the following case study, we show how we designed, validated and implemented this approach in production.
Our solution:
We chose 3D profilometry with a Keyence head and evaluation unit. The profilometer is directly on the robot, so one system can scan and inspect parts from all necessary sides. After readability tests, we chose a Keyence laser and a Cognex Dataman code reader to mark approved pieces. The combination of non-contact scanning, automated evaluation and laser marking ensures fast, repeatable and traceable inspections.
Result
We produced two types of semi-automatic stations for the customer.

EOL EVC Long

EOL EVC Short
Traceability and benefits
Each result is stored in a database and traceable by serial number. Compared to human inspection, cycle times are shortened (e.g. short parts from 60 s ➝ 16 s and long parts from 180 s ➝ 60 s), while the inspection remains consistent across production shifts.
